Event Details

  • Date:

Construction of a new roundabout at Bartlow, and safety improvements to the Dean Road junction with the A1307 are set to begin from Tuesday 2 May 2023.

The project to improve safety at a known accident cluster location, will be delivered by the Greater Cambridge Partnership and Milestone Infrastructure in four construction phases over the next 12 months.

During Phases 1 and 4 there will be a need to close the Bartlow Road north, there will be locally signed diversions in place.
During Phases 2 there will be a need to close the Bartlow Road south, there will be locally signed diversions in place.
During Phase 3 the A1307 will be closed over two consecutive weekends (8pm Friday evening to 6am Monday morning) sending traffic on a significant diversion using only National Highways routes.
Excluding Phase 3 and carriageway surfacing, the A1307 will remain open in both directions using narrowed lanes and speed restrictions.

See table below for further details of traffic management during the phased works
All diversion routes are available to view on the CSET 1 website here – www.greatercambridge.org.uk/A1307

What works will be done?

  • Temporary widening of A1307 on the Linton (north) side to enable construction of the new roundabout while maintaining two-way traffic on the A1307
  • Creation of a new roundabout at Bartlow
  • Works to tie in the new roundabout to the existing A1307 and Bartlow Road north and south
  • Reconfiguring the Dean Road junction so that traffic travelling east from Bartlow towards Haverhill using the A1307 from will be required to turn left and use the new roundabout
  • Drainage, landscaping, carriageway resurfacing, road markings and street lighting works
  • Working with Cadent Gas, BT Openreach and Cambridge Water to divert utility services on site where required

Traffic Management during construction

All efforts will be made to keep disruption to a minimum. However, for safety reasons during the works it will be necessary to close Bartlow Road (north and south) and local traffic will follow signed diversions.

During the tie in of the new roundabout to the A1307 (east and west) a closure of the A1307 will be required, with a longer diversion using National Highways roads.

We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.
